Statue Modern Cycladic Bodice

On the islands of the Cyclades, traces of a particular culture have been found, which was called the Cycladic civilization. The Cyclades, a seafaring people, developed not only trade, but also the arts. The abundant and excellent quality marble gave the raw material to the sculptors, who carved on it utensils and small objects as well as the famous Cycladic figurines. Their height is about 25-30 centimeters, but there are also figurines with a height of up to 153 centimeters. They usually represent naked women, standing with arms chest, long neck, soles oblique with engraved few details.
