The trireme was an ancient rowing warship with three rows of rowers, which, fully manned, could sail at unprecedented, for the data of the time speed and tow its origin from Corinth. This is a development of the direia, which already dominated the Mediterranean Sea, with special use by the ancient Greeks, the Phoenicians and, later, the Romans and Origin, probably, Phoenician. The term "direis "ceased to be used from the Roman period onwards, having now been replaced by the term"pentecontor". Trireme took its name from the three rows of oars: rower / Eretria: the city of rowers/ tri-Heris: three rows of oars), with one row per oar, as it began to be constructed, a characteristic that was universally applicable in the fleets of the archaic, classical and Hellenistic period. The use of triremes was soon extended to naval forces in the Mediterranean, in addition to the Greek ones, but these also adopted variations with triremes, that is, with two decks and two rowers per OAR on the upper deck, as well as unicretes, that is, with one deck and three rowers per OAR.
