Statue Colossus of Rhodes

According to legend, in the 4th century Fr.Allah. the god Apollo saved the people of Rhodes from a persistent siege of the Macedonian general Demetrius the besieger. As an expression of gratitude to their patron, the Rhodians erected the Colossus, a giant bronze statue, rising about 33 meters[1] above its marble pedestal, that is, it was two and a half times higher than the statue of Zeus in Olympia, the work of Phidias.
