Discus throwing was a favorite event for the ancient Greeks, a fact that can be seen from their art. According to the Greek tradition, the one who invented discus was Perseus, who, during his participation in epitaphic games, threw the discus and unwittingly killed his grandfather Akrisio. Apollo, too, in a discus fight kills his friend Hyacinth. In general, due to its nature, the disk since prehistoric times is associated with many fatal accidents. Officially, however, discus is described in Homer's Odyssey and Iliad.
